Why do I write?

The Writer's Life

The Writer’s Life

A journal prompt from my eCourse…

“Who wants to become a writer? And why? Because it’st he answer to everything. …It’s the streaming reason for living. To note, to pin down, to build up, to create, to be astonished at nothing, to cherish the oddities, to let nothing go down the drain, to make something, to make a great flower out of life, even if it’s a cactus.” ~Henry David Thoreau

Why do you write? What makes you want to tell a story?

I write because I have a story to tell. I write because it’s part of who and how I am. Because it feeds my soul. Cleanses my stressed mind, and washes away the angst. I write because I need to, not just because I want to.

I tell stories because the story is inside waiting to come out and if I don’t get it out then it just screams at me until I do—it haunts me, and won’t leave me alone. I tell stories because they make others, as well as myself, smile or laugh or cry. Because each word is a miniscule sip of joy that leads to a whole cup, and then some. I tell stories because they come to me begging to be written, and if I write them then the story whispers in my ear… “If you write them they will be read.”

I write. I read. I art. I breathe. I live. Happy.
