This definitely something all writers need to hear.

Writing, Reading, and Coffee

One of the pros and cons about being a writer is that it is pretty much a solitary endeavor. I can sit in a room full of people and write or read a good book, and drink my coffee and as long as the noise isn’t too loud I’m fine, or I can sit in a room alone and write or read a good book, and drink my coffee and I’m fine. Either way, whether I’m alone or in a room with people, what I’m doing is on my own, without other’s involvement–usually.

I’ve been called anti-social on more than one occasion. There was a time when I used to do a great deal of my college coursework sitting in a booth at a bar using my laptop (an older laptop-this was quite a while ago). Instead of mingling while my ex shot pool, mingled, etc I was on my laptop working on my homework. No, I didn’t write research papers while at the bar, but I did edit them, outline them, etc. Truthfully speaking, I can write or read with background noise, just not music, so when there’s music I use my headphones and listen to RainyMoods or instrumental music–usually from soundtracks.

I have been writing a lot more lately, especially since I just finished July’s Camp NaNoWriMo. I won, but am nowhere near finishing my novel yet. I’m at the 25% mark… I was editing a novel I started back in November’s NaNoWriMo, and it’s going well.

But I’ve found that the more I write, the more I get into the writing, the less social I am, and for others, and on occasion–myself, that is a problem. It’s not that I’m anti-social, so much as I’m a bit of a loner. I need time alone. I need the quiet, the calm, and without it my anxiety tends to be less manageable, but my depression seems to get a bit worse without social interaction. So I’ve tried to find a happy medium. A balance between time alone and socialization.

It’s hard sometimes, but I’ve found that without the balance not only does my writing suffer, but so does my mental health, not to mention my relationships with my loved ones.

Lately, since I’ve been writing more, at least for most of July, I’ve been less social. Plus we went on vacation. So I made it a point last weekend to spend time with family and friends. On Saturday we spent time with friends, and on Sunday we spent time with family (my daughter and grandson came over).

Finding my writing groove, has been a rough road, yet a fun and interesting one at the same time. Hope you’ll enjoy the progress as I’ll be sharing quite a bit of it with you.

Now, I’m going to go back to drinking my coffee and writing, and when it’s time for a break reading since I’m participating in the You-Tube Book-a-Thon for 2015.

My New Blog

Sometimes you just have to change things so that they fit–I didn’t like having the number attached to my name, email, etc, so I decided to go with my name in a way that I can end up getting my own domain… Burgess Taylor by itself is already taken by a photographer so I’ve kept my first initital and am now on the path towards branding myself. I just need to figure out how to get my old blog here… 😀 It’ll take a few weeks but soon I’ll have it all together in one place.
